Bayern Munich set to complete signing from Chelsea
Anthony Barry’s transfer to Bayern Munich is about to be finalized, sources have told 90min.
Barry had previously worked under Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, and the new Bayern coach made it clear to his new employers that he wanted to bring Barry to Germany.
Chelsea has been informed by the 36-year-old Barry of his desire to work with Tuchel, and negotiations are currently closing in.
Tuchel’s admission that he had contacted Barry before a deal had been reached infuriated Chelsea.
When he was introduced as Bayern’s head coach, he had stated:
“We’re hoping to add Anthony Barry, who is currently at Chelsea.”
In 2020, Frank Lampard brought Barry, a set-piece specialist, to Chelsea for the first time. However, he was retained by Graham Potter, the current Blues manager, and Tuchel, and he has become one of Europe’s most well-regarded managers.
Barry has decided to move to the Bundesliga, and Bayern is hoping that a deal will be finalized by the weekend.
Barry left Chelsea before his anticipated move to Munich, so he hasn’t returned. Being a member of Roberto Martinez’s Portugal staff, he has spent the past week on international duty.
He had previously collaborated with Martinez while on the Belgian national team, and they joined forces in March.
