The Captain of Chelsea Football Club, Cesar Azpilicueta has explained the reason he decided to extend his contract with the Blues.
The center defender was speaking in an interview ahead of Spain’s Round of 16 clash against Morocco at the ongoing FIFA World Cup. According to him the new owners at Chelsea led by Todd Boehly changed his decision to join Barcelona last summer.
The Spaniard was already close to joining Barcelona as a free agent but he changed his mind by signing a contract extension with the Blues.
He said,
New Chelsea owners have changed my situation, they wanted to keep me at all costs despite contract situation. I told that to Barcelona. I’m sure Xavi understood my point. Also, London is my home.
Chelsea supporters were excited when their skipper extended his contract but he has not been having a lot of game time under the new manager, Graham Potter.
