COPA DEL REY: Pedri, Dembele suffer injury setback, unlikely for El Clasico
Due to injury setbacks, it is unlikely that Pedri and Dembele will play in the El Clasico in February.
Pedri and Dembele, two of Barcelona’s best players, have been absent for the past few weeks, but they were expected to return after the international break in time to play Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey.
But neither player’s injuries have recovered as quickly as was expected, and they will both now miss the important cup match against Real Madrid at Camp Nou.
Pedro out of El Clasico
Pedri has been disqualified from competing in the El Clasico due to an injury setback, according to Toni Juanmarti, a reporter for the Spanish newspaper Relevo.
The 20-year-old has missed seven games for Barcelona since suffering a muscle injury in the middle of February.
He was expected to recover in time for the second leg of the Clasico match against Real Madrid on April 5, but he hasn’t been ruled out due to a setback in his recovery.
Dembele a doubt for El Clasico
Ousmane Dembele, who injured himself prior to Pedri and was slated for an earlier return, would have faced Real Madrid at Camp Nou in February if he had been healthy.
Dembele’s participation in the game is now in doubt because, despite not having been excluded like Pedri, it is unlikely that he will play.
The 25-year-old Barcelona player is in contract negotiations with the organization and has missed 11 games since suffering a hamstring injury at the end of January. For him to be prepared for the Real Madrid game, it will likely take an incredibly quick recovery.
