EPL: Skrtel rates Liverpool’s chances of finishing in top four, qualifying for UCL
Martin Skrtel, a former defender for Liverpool, has assessed the Reds’ potential to finish in the top four of the English Premier League (EPL) this year and advance to the Champions League.
If Liverpool finishes in the top four this season, Skrtel claimed that their fate will be decided by the series of games they play after the international break.
Prior to losing out on the EPL and UEFA Champions League titles, Liverpool won both domestic cup competitions last season.
They haven’t been at their best this season, however, as they are in danger of missing out on a top-four Premier League finish and have been eliminated from all cup competitions.
Skrtel, however, thinks Jurgen Klopp’s team will finish in the top four this year.
“In football you never only get good days, you have to take the bad days too,” Skrtel told The Athletic.
“This season isn’t as everyone wanted it to be. But there are three big games after the international break: Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal. That is going to be make or break in terms of qualifying for the Champions League. I still believe we can do it.”
He continued, “If we can perform like we did against [Manchester] United, we can finish in the top four.”
