EPL: Two Tottenham players threatened to leave because of Antonio Conte
If manager Antonio Conte had stayed at the team, Richarlison and Cristian Romero had threatened to leave Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham recently parted ways amicably with Conte.
This came after Conte yelled at Tottenham players following their 3-3 Premier League tie with Southampton.
Spurs players were criticized by Conte as being “selfish” and for not wanting to “play under pressure.”.
The Tottenham team and Conte appeared to be at odds this month, with Richarlison openly criticizing the Italian in the wake of their UEFA Champions League elimination by AC Milan.
Richarlison and Romero were considering leaving Tottenham if the club’s board decided to keep Conte in place for the remainder of the season, according to Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, who is close with several different Tottenham players.
“Conte’s relationship with the squad was very bad, it is needless to say, it is something that we could see in his words,” Edul told TyC Sports.
“Some players had given an ultimatum in case he [Conte] continued. Now the outlook of Tottenham has changed.
“Cristian Romero was rethinking about his stay at the club [Tottenham] if Conte remained.
“As I understand it, the same thing happened with Richarlison.”
