I’ve No Regrets Picking Chelsea Over Manchester United – Mikel Obi
Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has stated that he has fond memories of his time with the club and has no regrets choosing them over Manchester United.
Mikel played for Stamford Bridge for 11 years and is one of the most decorated African players in history.
During his time with the West London club, he won two Premier Leagues, two League Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one Europa League, and four FA Cups.
Mikel moved to Chelsea in 2006 after Manchester claimed they had already signed him.
After a lengthy saga which lasted for months, Chelsea offered to pay Manchester United $12m, while Mikel’s then Danish club Lyn Oslo got $4m.
“I don’t regret any decision I made because I enjoyed everything I achieved at Chelsea – it’s the best decision I have ever made in my life,” Mikel told BBC Sport Africa.
“I signed a pre-contract for Manchester United when I was 17. If you are a kid and you see Sir Alex Ferguson right in front of you with the contract, of course you will be tempted.”
The Chelsea legend left the Blues side for the Chinese Super League club, Tiajin Teda, in 2017.
