Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has teased fans about what to expect from Season 2 of the show. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dong-hyuk was asked about the themes of the second season and if he was affected by the response to the successful first run. “I’ve seen a lot of people’s reactions to the show,” he said. “But I don’t want to do season two in response to those reactions. The philosophies I put into season one,
, will of course carry over into season two.

“Squid Game Season 2: Estimated Release Date

Netflix officially announced that Squid Game will be returning for Series 2 in June. At the time, he released a statement from the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, who was also a writer and executive producer. “It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series of all time. As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a big thank you to all

The statement didn’t give much away as to when we can expect Season 2. However, in an interview with Vanity Fair in May, Hwang predicted, that the new series could come out in late 2023 or 2024. This would coincide with the two years it took to film the first season.

More recently, Hwang Dong- said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter hyuk revealed that there is a deadline to finish writing the season 2 script by the end of 
, which means it’s more likely to be released in 2024.

He told the outlet, “I had to work on my next project and also meet with lawyers, managers, agents and studios. I’m also working on a feature film and have a deadline to finish writing the second season of Squid Game by the end of this year or early next year. So I really haven’t had any time in the last nine months.”
