Liverpool defeats Tottenham at Anfield to earn a crucial win, moving them up to fifth place and eight points behind Manchester United, who are now in fourth.

Tottenham attempted to build on its inspiring comeback victory over Manchester United earlier in the week but were shocked by Liverpool at Anfield, losing 4-3 and having The Reds pass them in the standings.

Tottenham was subdued by three goals in the first half from Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz, and Mohamed Salah as Liverpool dominated them at Anfield.

Harry Kane’s accurate shot at the end of the first half gave them a goal, though. In the second half, Tottenham made an effort to recover, but Liverpool were simply too strong for them.

Second-half goals from Heung-min Son and Richarlison gave Tottenham the lead, but Diogo Jota’s injury-time goal gave Liverpool the victory.

As it actually was.

With Diaz, Elliot, and Konate starting again, Jurgen Klopp made three adjustments to the squad that defeated West Ham earlier in the week. Kulusevski and Davis were started by Tottenham’s interim manager for the match against Manchester United.

After being set up inside the box by a superb lofted pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones scored with a brilliant low shot into the middle of the goal in just the third minute of the game to give Liverpool the lead.

Two minutes later, Cody Gakpo set up Luis Diaz inside the box, and he curled the ball past Fraser Forster and into the right side of the goal for the second goal for the home team.

The third goal of the match was added by Liverpool, who were now appearing to be a team that would destroy Tottenham. Cristian Gabriel Romero brought his opponent to the ground in the box, and referee Paul Tierney blew his whistle to indicate a foul.

When given the opportunity to take the penalty shot, Mohamed Salah launches an unstoppable ball past Fraser Forster and into the top of the goal.

Ivan Perisic crossed the ball into the box in the 39th minute, finding Harry Kane, who grabbed it and fired a low shot into the middle of the goal as Tottenham attempted to get back into the game.

Tottenham attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, as they did against Manchester United, but they were only successful in scoring in the 77th minute when Heung-Min Son connected with a cross just outside the penalty area and unleashed a low shot that went into the middle of the net and was stopped by the goalkeeper.

Heung-Min Son’s curling free kick into the box in the 93rd minute then gave the away team the victory. After shedding his defender, Richarlison sends a brilliant header past Alisson and into the top right corner of the net.

Tottenham thought they had saved a point at Anfield, but they were shocked in the 94th minute when Diogo Jota pounced on a loose ball inside the box and stunned the goalkeeper with a shot into the bottom right corner, winning the game for Liverpool.

In the waning stages of the race for a Champions League spot, the defeat drops Tottenham to sixth place, with Liverpool moving ahead of them into fifth.
