Xavi set to overtake Guardiola in Barcelona history books
With additional Blaugrana records in jeopardy, Xavi may soon surpass Pep Guardiola in Barcelona’s history as early as this weekend.

As he becomes more likely to set a new points record before the season is out, Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez may surpass one of his former managers, Pep Guardiola, in the Blaugrana’s history books.
Xavi is getting close to breaking the Barcelona record.
After holding off Real Madrid’s feeble challenge and clinching the title with a victory over hometown rivals Espanyol, Barcelona is already assured of winning LaLiga in 2022–23.
The Blaugrana currently have 85 league points, and with four more games remaining, they have a chance to reach a maximum of 12 points, which would put them at 97 points overall.
In his first full season in charge of the Blaugrana, Xavi will become the Barcelona manager with the most points if they are successful in reaching that total.
Luis Enrique, Valverde, and Guardiola were the targets of Xavi’s shot.
Xavi has a chance to surpass Luis Enrique, a fellow Barcelona native and one of his former coaches who currently holds the record after scoring 94 points with Barcelona in his first season at the club in 2014–15.

Ernesto Valverde, who nearly went the entirety of the 2017–18 LaLiga season unbeaten and finished with 93 points, is the next best coach after Luis Enrique.
If Xavi can help Barcelona defeat Real Sociedad this weekend, he could surpass Guardiola’s record of 87 points set in his first season as manager.
With a victory, Xavi will surpass his tutor’s season-high point total of 88, set when the latter was still a member of one of the top teams in the world.
